James marked his return to single-seater racing with an impressive showing at Silverstone, topping the timesheets in the weekend’s only practice session before producing a charge through the field from P25 to P11 in Sunday’s Eurocup-3 race.

The weekend began in hugely encouraging fashion with James immediately showing his pace in the Double R Racing car. Despite having not competed in a single-seater since September last year, he went quickest of the entire 30-car field in the one-hour practice session, setting a best time of 1:55.363 around the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.

Qualifying brought very different fortunes. A technical issue as James left the pits compromised the session and left him towards the back of the grid, meaning there would be plenty of work to do when racing got underway.

Sunday morning brought wet conditions to Silverstone, with the entire field starting on wet tyres. From the 13th row of the grid, James immediately set about working his way forward and produced one of the standout drives of the race.

Over the course of 16 laps, James climbed through the field to reach the fringes of the points, eventually taking the chequered flag in P11 – a gain of 14 positions from P25. The performance was also recognised in the race coverage, which highlighted his rapid progress through the field.

It capped an impressive return to competitive single-seater racing for James. Fastest in practice and then P11 from P25 in the second race demonstrated what he could do despite arriving at Silverstone with very limited preparation and only one hour of practice before qualifying.
